Refugees in Europe

You have likely seen the heartbreaking photos of the thousands of people fleeing violence, hunger, war, and more throughout Europe and northern Africa. If you or your church would like to help respond to this crisis, there are several opportunities to provide financial assistance through the United Methodist Church.

Click here or click here to read how Methodists in Europe and UMCOR are responding.

Click here to donate through UMCOR-International Disaster Response.

You may also donate through the General Advance to the "In Mission Together - Hungary" Project. Click here for more details. That support will go through the bishop's office in Zurich.

Donations of material items are not recommended; prayers and financial contributions will be the most effective aid you can provide at this time.

Imagine No Malaria update

In 2014, the Alabama-West Florida Conference committed to support the Imagine No Malaria initiative of the United Methodist Church. This is our Church's ambitious goal to end needless deaths due to malaria in sub-Saharan Africa. By joining with a few other major partners throughout the globe, we have a much better chance of reaching that goal. Together, we can end this treatable and preventable disease.

Imagine No Malaria is so much more than giving nets to people. It is a comprehensive effort of providing education on what causes and transmits the disease, training health care workers, providing medication, finding ways to prevent malaria's spread, and so much more. You can read more at www.imaginenomalaria.org

For a free worship resource DVD and many other materials, visit www.imaginenomalaria.org/bringchange

Our conference's commitment is to save 100,000 lives at $10 a life. As of August 31, you have contributed enough to save 96,366 lives. See how your own church has done at www.awfumc.org/inmprogress.

Help us finish out our goal - just a few more to go!

Red Bird Missionary Conference Partnership grows

Our partnership with the Red Bird Missionary Conference continues to grow and develop. Several AWFC churches have already sent teams to Kentucky, and they sent a mission team to Pensacola for disaster response work in March. Part of their team is pictured above. Click here to read more about how our relationship with this conference is growing, including stories from Ozark First UMC, Covenant UMC, and the Montgomery-Prattville District.

Mission Volunteer Opportunities

If you are being called to serve in mission service beyond a week or ten days,  the Mission Volunteer Program sponsored by Global Ministries provides opportunities for individuals and couples to serve from two months to two years in a variety of ministries around the world.  Here are some examples:

  • In Honduras there are ministries that need volunteers to serve as youth leaders, to coordinate team projects, and to minister to children with disabilities.
  • In Africa, a volunteer is needed at the Malawi United Methodist Church Conference Offices. The position is for an international financial management consultant. The main responsibility is to develop and implement a financial accounting management system.
  • A missionary in Chile is seeking a volunteer to serve as a gardner and groundskeeper.
  • The McCurdey School in Espanola, New Mexico has ongoing needs for directors.
  • In Haiti there is a need for a couple to serve as volunteers-in-mission team coordinators.

To respond to these volunteer requests and others, become a Mission Volunteer. Apply now at www.missionvolunteers.org in time for the October 21-24 training event. Please contact Malcolm Frazier at mfrazier@umcmission.org or call 212 870-3659.
