Day Five: May 14, 2016
A daily news update will not be delivered tomorrow, May 15, 2016, as General Conference will observe a day of rest.
Day Five of General Conference
Today concludes the first week of General Conference where delegates spent a majority of their time in legislative committees. Tomorrow will be a day of Sabbath for delegates as they rest in preparation for the week ahead. Please continue to lift up the General Conference delegates in prayer as they participate in this important work of the church. Monday begins the legislative process where voting takes place to potentially revise church law, adopt resolutions on current moral, social, public policy and economic issues, as well as approve plans and budgets for church-wide programs. In addition to the sermon delivered by Bishop Devadhar (see below article), The Young Person's Address was co-delivered by Peter Cibuabua (pictured above) from Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Chelsea Spyres of the Michigan Conference. The mission of their message was to demonstrate how engaged young people are in our connection. Click here to read full script. Photo by Mike DuBose, UMNS.
Bishop Devadhar: Listen to Each Other and God
(UMNS) - Bishop Sudarshana Devadhar used the familiar story of the Magi (Matthew 2:1-12) to urge General Conference delegates to find “a new epiphany” by listening to each other’s perspectives and, most importantly, by listening to God. With the theme “Going with Courage,” Devadhar, who leads the New England Conference, told those gathered on May 14 for a morning worship service how important it is to be brave enough to listen if we are to arrive at the right place. We give thanks for our connection and for all the prayers that have covered us thus far.
