United Methodist Inner City Mission Annual Golf Tournament

On a beautiful Thursday morning, October 19th, 48 golfers gathered at Magnolia Grove in Mobile to celebrate the raising of over $37,000 in pledges for the United Methodist Inner City Mission.

Ms. Eleanor Toland, Sandy Siminson, Liz Munn, Marta Lucas and Suzan Lovelace registered the players, gave them a welcome bag, Inner City Mission golf hat and a half-dozen golf balls.  All interested players registered for the free drawing of two Senior Bowl tickets and hat.

Thanks to the hard work of Scott Jordan (Christ United), everyone had a chicken biscuit from Chic-fil-A.  The twelve teams were sent out to play at 8am, after a prayer by Dr. Bishop, our District Superintendent. About 5 hours later, all were back for a fine hamburger bar-b-que with baked beans, cole slaw and cookies.  This was followed by the awards ceremony and all players received a door prize.

This event has been scheduled for October 18th next year at Magnolia on the Crossings Course once again.  We believe in the adage, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it.”  Your church, organization and any individuals are welcome to join in the celebration.  The requirement is for an individual to raise $300 in pledges for the Mission.  A four (4) person team must raise twelve hundred ($1200) in total pledges.

Another way to support the Mission is to ask a business to contribute $100 for a hole sponsor sign. This allows an opportunity for local businesses to hear about the success of the Mission’s work in Mobile. You find out about that work by stopping in at The United Methodist Mobile Inner City Mission at 913 South Broad Street.

We look forward to seeing you next year on October 18th while we enjoy God’s creation, great fellowship and good food as we support this local ministry.

New Semester Begins Soon for Students at USA Wesley Foundation

As a new semester begins in January, the USA Wesley Foundation wants to continue the tradition of providing meals each Tuesday night. We are seeking volunteers to help provide this meal each week.  This is an important time in the lives of these young students and what a great opportunity for you to show hospitality and get to know them as they grow in their relationship with Christ!  They expect to feed approximately 40 folks each week. Wesley will have paper products and drinks so you only need the meal... but be sure to include a dessert – we are talking about college students you know.  :-)  You are welcome to stay and eat with the students or you may simply drop off the food at the Wesley Foundation by 5:30pm. This could be a great project for your Sunday School Class or a small group within your church.
Please consider supporting the students of The Wesley Foundation in this way and  click here to sign up!

Dumas Wesley’s Annual Toy Store is December 9, 2017

For over a century, Dumas Wesley Community Center has had the privilege of serving the Mobile community through a broad range of services for the elderly, unemployed, homeless and at-risk youth. One of the most beloved events is our Annual Christmas Toy Store.

We invite you to join us in helping needy families provide a Christmas for their children by supporting this popular event. The Christmas Toy Store serves 75 low-income families residing in the local Crichton neighborhood and Sybil Smith Family Village, Dumas Wesley’s transitional housing program. The Dumas Wesley Community Center provides parents with an opportunity to buy new toys and bikes for Christmas at a fraction of their retail value. This year, the Toy Store will take place Saturday, December 9, 2017.

How Can I Help?

  • Allow Dumas Wesley to set up a Christmas display asking for new toy and bike donations from your staff and patrons
  • Donate new toys or bikes for our store by December 4, 2017
  • Become a Corporate Sponsor and help our elves shop for new toys ($500.00)
  • Sponsor a family who will be shopping at the toy store ($100.00)
  • Volunteer the day of the event (18 and older please)

All donors will receive special recognition on our website and social media outlets.  We hope you will support our event and help us bring the joy of Christmas to disadvantaged children and families in our community.  The Toy Store supports year round programs in the After School Achievement Program.
