Attention Early Response Teams!

Here is the perfect opportunity for your ERT's or response groups to help someone local.  A 62 year old handicapped woman on a fixed income needs your assistance.  A thunderstorm event on August 8th caused a tree limb to fall damaging her roof and detached garage.  The storm also broke the power line and rendered her garage without power.  The home is located in the downtown Mobile area.   If you would like to help please contact Amelia Fletcher at or 251-978-8384.

Circles of Transformation Taste and See Event - September 3rd

Circles of Transformation (COT) is an innovative ministry that partners low-income families with community volunteers. Through COT, intentional and often unlikely friendships are developed, bridging the socioeconomic, cultural, and racial gaps that might often divide us. Participants enter a safe and nurturing atmosphere filled with hope. There they can dream about a more stable future for themselves, developing clear goals and a pathway to a better place. The participants are not the only ones experiencing transformation. COT volunteers also report dramatic change growing out of the new friendships that have been formed. You may learn more by joining us for a Taste and See Event on September 3rd from 5:45-8:00 PM at Spring Hill Ave UMC. We will have dinner and a simulated COT meeting so that you may experience Circles of Transformation. Child care will be provided. To learn more call Katy Wrona at 724.889.6754 and also go to  or

Christ UMC Hosts Bible Conference with Dr. Ben Witherington August 30 & 31

How can we read and understand the Bible? With thousands of years of history between the modern reader and this ancient text, how can we be certain we know what it is trying to say?In August, Christ UMC will host a two-day Bible conference with one of the leading Bible scholars and best Bible communicators in the world! Dr. Ben Witherington has written over forty books, including The Jesus Quest and The Paul Quest, both of which were selected as top Biblical study works by Christianity Today. He is also the author of our fall small group focus on the book of John.Along with many interviews on radio networks across the country, Witherington has been seen on the History Channel, NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN, The Discovery Channel, A&E and the PAX Network. In addition to his teaching on reading and understanding the Bible, he will offer a special lunch study where he will address some of the most common arguments against the Bible’s reliability and credibility. It is not often that we get the opportunity to hear from such a brilliant mind and eloquent communicator and we hope you won’t miss the chance in August. September is Hunger Action Month

Nearly 50 million people in the United States today are hungry or food insecure. Plan now to make September a time for your congregation to stand together against hunger, joining with the Society of St. Andrew to see that each person in this country has healthy, nourishing food to eat. The Daily Calendar for Prayer and Action includes a scripture reading and related activity for each day of September. Using this calendar, your congregants will take direct action against hunger and give money that, through the Society of St. Andrew, will be used to put nourishing fruits and vegetables on the tables of our hungry brothers and sisters right here in the U.S.
