2017 Paddle Skedaddle!

Saturday, June 3rd 2017 - 9am to 2pm

Spend the morning on the water racing (or moseying) this 1.5 mile course with your family or as an individual!  There will be awards, lots of fair games & concessions on the grounds!

This family-friendly event will take place at 5 Rivers (off the Causeway) on the June 3rd.  Boats launch from the launch site in front of Delta Safaris and line up at the docks at 5 Rivers.  Spectators will cheer the boat teams as they start from the docks and race around a small island at the end of the cut-through that connects Sardine Pass with Justin’s Bay.

While contestants are on the water, there are lots of fun activities for adults and children.  There will be food and fair games galore.  After the race, there will be awards given in a number of categories including, “parent/child teams”, “most creatively dressed team”, “loudest cheering section”, the coveted “Pews & Canoes Award” for the church with the most supporters there, etc.

Funds raised go to the USA Wesley Foundation Building Fund.  Click here to find more information!

1st Annual Inner City Mission Gala Announced

For over 41 years the United Methodist Inner City Mission has served the needs of those who are hopeless, hungry, and homeless. The Mission provides ministries to address the spiritual, physical and emotional needs of the community and offer hope for a brighter future.

In 2004, the Mission took over the operations of Taylor Park on Baltimore Street. The after school and summer tutorial program is one of the best in the city. The program in 2016, documented a 20% increase in reading scores.

In 2017, the Mission would like to expand its summer tutorial program. During the months of June and July we will be starting a summer enrichment program. This program will be designed specifically for the needs of the children of the Taylor Park community in kindergarten through the eighth grade. The program will provide breakfast, lunch, and a snack to serve the nutritional needs of the children. It will also provide a quality academic program. The cost is $100 per child which covers all aspects of the program; including transportation and educational field trips.

We would like your support in this effort by attending a Gala at Helena II on May18, 2017.  The cost of the Gala is the sponsorship of one child. It will consist of a short program, dinner, and an opportunity to hear about how Taylor Park has changed the lives of young people in the community.  For more information or to purchase a ticket call (251) 432-1122 or email umicm1@yahoo.com.
