Mark your calendars for USA Wesley Foundation's Paddle Skedaddle!

Saturday, June 3rd 2017 - 9am to 2pm

Spend the morning on the water racing (or moseying) this 1.5 mile course with your family or as an individual!  There will be awards, lots of fair games & concessions on the grounds!

This family-friendly event will take place at 5 Rivers (off the Causeway) on the June 3rd.  Boats launch from the launch site in front of Delta Safaris and line up at the docks at 5 Rivers.  Spectators will cheer the boat teams as they start from the docks and race around a small island at the end of the cut-through that connects Sardine Pass with Justin’s Bay.
While contestants are on the water, there are lots of fun activities for adults and children.  There will be food and fair games galore.  After the race, there will be awards given in a number of categories including, “parent/child teams”, “most creatively dressed team”, “loudest cheering section”, the coveted “Pews & Canoes Award” for the church with the most supporters there, etc.

Please consider becoming a sponsor and help to support the foundation.  Funds raised go to the USA Wesley Foundation Building Fund.  Click here to find more information!

"A Place at the Table" is a gathering of ethnic believers (lay and clergy) seeking to have intentional conversations about inclusion and unity throughout the Church. We confess that God’s heart for the Church is that we be a community of diverse believers, working and serving together for the transformation of the world. It is our prayer that this time of intentional conversation will aid in establishing commonality, creating community and bringing clarity of purpose to all our ethnic members and churches within the Alabama-West Florida Conference.

This event will grant a unique opportunity to gather with other believers as we worship and enter into a time of intentional conversation.

We would love for all those interested to join us!

Upcoming Emmaus Walks

As a pastor, I've used Emmaus over the years as a discipleship tool to encourage my leaders in taking the next step in their walk with Christ. Here at Saraland UMC, we send as many of our members as possible. I especially recommend Emmaus to all pastors and leaders, not only for their own renewal but also so leaders can refer then others to this experience. Emmaus, published by The Upper Room, is a 72-hour retreat that includes a number of biblical talks and powerful worship experiences. It is open to people in all denominations. We're fortunate, here in the Mobile District, to have Servant Heart Emmaus retreats held nearby in Citronelle. Upcoming dates, which often fill up quickly, are Men's Walk (Sept 21-24) and Women's Walk (Oct 12-15). You can find an application by clicking HERE. Scholarships are available. For information, please feel free to contact me any time.  -Rev. Mike Hoppe, Saraland UMC,  mike@saralandumc.org,  251-675-2728

UMCOR Sunday (formerly One Great Hour of Sharing) is March 26

When disaster strikes around the globe—Haiti’s 2010 earthquake or Typhoon Haiyan in 2013—so many watching the drama unfold on our living room televisions feel entirely helpless. How could any one person make a difference in the wake of such widespread devastation? As responders around the globe scramble to help survivors, the United Methodist Committee on Relief, UMCOR, is prepared to act. When you give, you equip Christ’s body to serve in His name. That’s because your generous giving to UMCOR Sunday (formerly One Great Hour of Sharing) is what allows UMCOR to act as the arms and legs of Christ’s church, moving toward the most vulnerable in their darkest days. Convinced that all people have God-given worth and dignity—without regard to race, religion or gender—together we are assisting those impacted by crisis or chronic need. More information here.
