Three AWF Local Church Council Training Videos Now Available
Three 2018 local church council training videos are now online and available. These videos were written and produced so that committee members in the conference may be properly trained in the new year. Whether you are a veteran member of a committee or this is your first year serving, these videos will outline the duties, responsibilities and expectations of committee members. Videos for local church SPR/PPR committees, finance committees and trustee committees can be found in the link below. We invite each local church committee related to these topics in the Alabama-West Florida Conference to view these as a ministry team. Click here to access videos.
AWF "At the Table" Ministry Receives GCORR Grant
A vision that became a reality has been awarded a $15,000 grant from the General Commission on Religion and Race. "At the Table" is an event that was held in the spring and fall of 2017 and brought together those in the conference who are focused on ethnic ministries. The grant outlines that this event-turned-ministry will:
-Bring about change by training church leaders to effectively minister to all people;
-Train these leaders in cultural competency and effective community engagement;
-Provide them with resources to help begin the work of racial reconciliation;
-Continue with follow-up “At The Table” gatherings with Bishops, District Superintendents, and ethnic churches. More here.
Disabilities Sunday Designated in the AWF Conference
Sunday, February 25, 2018, has been designated as Disability Awareness Sunday in the Alabama-West Florida Conference. As United Methodists, "We recognize that God made all creation and saw that it was good. As a diverse people of God who bring special gifts and evidences of God's grace to the unity of the Church and to society, we are called to be faithful to the example of Jesus' ministry to [and with] all persons." (¶140, The Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church 2012). More here.
8th Annual Legislative Prayer Breakfast
The Conference Board of Church and Society is sponsoring the 8th Annual Legislative Prayer Breakfast on Thursday, February 1. You are invited to attend, as well as all laity. The breakfast will be held at the Alabama State House at 7:30AM.
Please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org by January 30.
Location: Alabama State House, 11 South Union Street, Montgomery, AL 36130, Room 200
To enter the State House that morning, use the Washington Ave. entrance (south side of building) at the corner of Washington Ave. and S. Union Street. Room 200 is to the right immediately after passing through security.
The purpose of the breakfast is to be in prayer with our lawmakers and elected officials that the decisions they make in 2018 will be in accordance with God's will for our state. Bishop David Graves will be our speaker this year.
Knowing how busy our elected officials are and the number of invitations they receive, we would like to encourage their attendance in every way possible. You can help by contacting your local legislators and issuing a personal invitation. You will find their contact information at http://capwiz.com/state-al/home/. Please encourage your legislators to also RSVP by January 30.
