Helping with the Flint Water Crisis

The water crisis in Flint, Michigan, has not been in the news headlines as much recently, but the people who live there are still affected and will be dealing with the problems for years to come. Lead-tainted water, infrastructure problems, lack of trust between officials and residents, and so many other issues have meant there are many complex challenges to overcome. In the midst of these challenges, however, the United Methodist Church is present and doing what it can to be in ministry to their community at this time of great need. Trained Early Response Teams Needed

Our brothers and sisters in Central Texas are reaching out for help after the massive amounts of rain they have recently received.

The Central Texas Conference is asking for trained Early Response Teams from throughout the connection. Here is their message:

We are currently up and working in the city of Granbury (located just southwest of Fort Worth, TX).  We will also be looking for assistance in Cisco, TX, located two hours west of Fort Worth in the near future. We are getting operations set-up for this location. We do have housing for you located at a local church that also has a kitchen for you to prepare your meals and showers located within the building. You will need to bring your own bedding, tools, PPE and other personal items.

Click here for the registration link. You will be able to give us your first, second and third choices (along with choice of locations once both are posted – currently only Granbury is posted) for dates you are available to come. Whenever it is possible we are working to give you your first choice. Once you register a page will come up that will give you the forms you need for medical and liability release. We are not charging anything for you to come and stay. The conference is absorbing those costs as a thank you for your work. All of your expenses will be related to your own travel, food, etc., to take of yourself as a team. If your conference has Early Response t-shirts please wear them when possible and wear your badges.

Once you have registered you will receive a follow-up email giving you details of the date you are coming, contact information with the church (please do not call them before you hear back from us) and other pertinent information.
If you have any questions you contact Rev. Laraine Waughtal at or Sheryl Crumrine (Administrative Assistant) at  You can also call our offices at 817-877-5222.
