Alabama-West Florida Conference Responds to Irma
The Alabama-West Florida Conference continues to respond in the aftermath of Hurricanes Irma and Harvey. Thank you for your incredible response through UMCOR monetary offerings and kit collections. The Florida Conference has officially requested as many kits that we can assemble. Click here for instructions and collection sites. Amelia Fletcher, AWF Disaster Response Coordinator, released this video so that churches may always be prepared, whether it be a hurricane, tornado or other disaster. Rev. Rob Gulledge and a team from Eclectic UMC have restored the conference shower trailer that will be going to Florida this week. Rev. Rob Haynes of Morgan's Chapel UMC will be leading the relief efforts after these hurricanes. He can be reached at email@example.com. Agency Offers Post-Charlottesville Toolkit
(GCORR) - In the wake of Charlottesville and other protests around the U.S., the United Methodist Commission on Religion and Race is providing church leaders with resources to promote awareness and foster relationships across lines of difference. The toolkit is a curation of resources that may be beneficial for a small group or congregation on the themes of white supremacy, hate and violence. See toolkit. Grant for Seminary Students Announced
(COB) - Applications for a partial scholarship to attend The Ecumenical Institute at Bossey during the Fall 2018 Graduate Session are now available. Seminary students who intend to vocationally serve The UMC are encouraged to consider this opportunity to engage in an ecumenical community for this 5-month, graduate-level course. Please join us on October 28th for our second At The Table gathering. We will continue the conversations we began this past April. We will directly engage discussions about effective ministry in Spanish and English breakout groups. Ethnic speakers from around the Methodist Church will help us think through what true inclusion and ethnic thriving looks like within our conference and local churches. Worship will be led in English and Spanish. Certified interpretive services will be offered as well.
Bishop Graves will also share his heart regarding ethnic ministries and inclusivity within our conference. Our prayer is that you might consider joining us for this time of fellowship!

The Council of Bishops Office of Christian Unity and Interreligious Relationships awards Local Initiative Grants to groups within annual conferences who are creating ecumenical and interreligious ministries in their local contexts. Applications for one of three annual "Local Initiative Grants" are now available. Projects receiving grants should be carried out during the first half of 2018. Upcoming Disaster Early Response Training
Be prepared to respond to the next disaster. Disaster Early Response Training (ERT) covers the basics of early disaster response, including roof tarping, cleaning out damaged homes, spiritual and emotional care, team protocols, and more. Proper credentials are required for individuals and teams responding in the first few days after a disaster. Participants who successfully complete this training will receive those credentials, including an ERT badge.
