Art Night at South Brookley UM Church -- March 6th, 4-7pm
You are invited to Art Night at South Brookley United Methodist Church on DIP this Sunday, March 6th. There was a time when the church was seen as the greatest patron of the arts – now, not so much. We want to change that perception. We believe God is the inspiration for all true art (and not just "Christian" art). In partnership with the fine arts department of BC Rain High School under the leadership of Ms. Dana Washburn, we present the following program as part of our monthly Soul Café worship gathering:
- 4:00pm - Children's activities begin4:00pm - Art Gallery time. The walls of the sanctuary will be decorated with drawings and paintings by BC Rain HS art students. You're invited to come and spend some time walking around and interacting with the art and with the students.
- 5:00pm - Worship service with music, spoken word poetry, a message on "The Creative and Creating God", and a live art creation by local artists Mr. Bobby Calhoun (who will also have some of his work on display at 4pm)
- 6:00pm – Free supper and "paint party" in the Fellowship Hall. Message Kim Feagin on Facebook if you would like to reserve a canvas to paint on!

Register for Robert Lupton Event, sponsored by Communities of Transformation
Just how should we respond in compassion and love to those who ask the church for help? Come learn from Communities of Transformation (COT) and others who are doing just that. COT will host a gathering on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Daphne UMC and again on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at Aldersgate UMC in Montgomery. A bulletin insert may be found at the link below.
Hear from Robert Lupton, author of Toxic Charity. Bob has spent his entire career serving those who do not have sufficient resources. But, Bob has a very different strategy than most churches.
You will also have an opportunity to learn about COT. This ministry is engaging adults who live without enough… and the impact is remarkable. You will learn about how COT is currently operating in six communities. Learn how you can make it happen in your community from the pastors, COT volunteers, participants and staff that are part of the change that is happening. Hear about the transformation that is occurring! You will go home with information about the next steps to begin a Communities of Transformation ministry in your community, in your church.
This event is free and open to the public. We invite all churches, denominations, and communities to come and catch a vision of a different way of living in community with those who live on the margins.
