September is Hunger Action Month

See and Order Hunger Action Month Resources
Download the Calendar (PDF)

Nearly 50 million people in the United States today are hungry or food insecure. Plan now to make September a time for your congregation to stand together against hunger, joining with the Society of St. Andrew to see that each person in this country has healthy, nourishing food to eat. The Daily Calendar for Prayer and Action includes a scripture reading and related activity for each day of September. Using this calendar, your congregants will take direct action against hunger and give money that, through the Society of St. Andrew, will be used to put nourishing fruits and vegetables on the tables of our hungry brothers and sisters right here in the U.S.

The Academy for Congregational Excellence (A.C.E.) invites clergy to participate in a unique cohort opportunity this fall. Body & Soul is a 12- week group covenant experience focused upon a holistic approach to spiritual, emotional, relational and physical flourishing. Beginning Tuesday, September 2nd, a Body & Soul group is launching in Mobile.  An orientation session for Body & Soul will be held Friday, August 21st at Dauphin Way UMC at 2:00 pm.  Click here to read more.

Christ UMC Hosts Bible Conference with Dr. Ben Witherington August 30 & 31

How can we read and understand the Bible? With thousands of years of history between the modern reader and this ancient text, how can we be certain we know what it is trying to say?In August, Christ UMC will host a two-day Bible conference with one of the leading Bible scholars and best Bible communicators in the world! Dr. Ben Witherington has written over forty books, including The Jesus Quest and The Paul Quest, both of which were selected as top Biblical study works by Christianity Today. He is also the author of our fall small group focus on the book of John.Along with many interviews on radio networks across the country, Witherington has been seen on the History Channel, NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN, The Discovery Channel, A&E and the PAX Network. In addition to his teaching on reading and understanding the Bible, he will offer a special lunch study where he will address some of the most common arguments against the Bible’s reliability and credibility. It is not often that we get the opportunity to hear from such a brilliant mind and eloquent communicator and we hope you won’t miss the chance in August. Please join us for the whole conference and invite your friends to come along!    Click here for more information.
