Alabama-West Florida Conference Announces Top Priorities

September 17, 2018

In an effort to better align the work and focus of the Alabama-West Florida Conference, Bishop David Graves, the extended cabinet, and the Compass leadership team (ministry area directors) have released four priorities that will streamline the efforts of the conference. The priorities were carefully crafted over several months and are a result of many hours of exploring all ministry areas.  Click here to find more...

A Word From the Bishop

We celebrate the two-year anniversary of Bishop David W. Graves being assigned and installed to the Alabama-West Florida Conference. Hear more from him in this interview with Mary Catherine Phillips, AWF Director of Communications, about his second year and his hopes for our conference. Click here to find a link to the video.

Senator Doug Jones speaking at Toulminville-Warren Street UMC

On Sunday, September 23, during the 10 am worship service, Toulminville- Warren Street United Methodist Church will observe HISTORICAL BLACK COLLEGES and UNIVERSITIES (HBCU). The guest speaker will be US Senator Doug Jones, a lay member of Canterbury UMC, Mountain Brook, AL. The theme for the worship service is: "A MIND IS A TERRIBLE THING TO WASTE", Romans 12:1-13. Funds designated from the offering will be given to both Alabama A & M University, Huntsville, AL and Southern University, Baton Rouge, LA. Both of the schools football teams will play in the inaugural GULF COAST CHALLENGE game at Ladd-Peeples Stadium on Saturday, September 22. The attire for the worship service: your favorite HBCU or college apparel. We welcome your presence with us and your prayers for the event. ERT Training at West Side UMC

The Mobile District needs to be prepared for the next disaster.  Please consider being a part of a local Early Response Team (ERT) training event that will help us reach that goal! ERT training covers the essentials of early disaster response, including roof tarping, cleaning out damaged homes, spiritual and emotional care, team protocols, and much more. You will receive a badge to join future emergency response teams.  This training is open to all people age 18 and over.

John Swanson will lead the training at West Side UMC on Saturday, September 29, 2018, from 8 am to 3 pm.  The cost of the event is $10 to cover lunch. Please register by September 20. To register, email Kay Lauber at wsumc.ofc@att.net or call 251-478-3721.

USA Wesley Foundation Tuesday Night Meals

The USA Wesley Foundation still has three dates available for a church or individual to provide a meal for the students.  They really appreciate eating something that is homemade and also enjoy making connections with the people that support the ministry! This could be a great project for your Sunday School Class or small group within your church. Please click here to sign up!

The district town hall meetings are part of an ongoing conversation concerning The Commission on A Way Forward and the called General Conference scheduled for February of 2019.
