This year’s recipient of the 2016 Missional Offering for the Alabama-West Florida Conference is the Disaster Response & Recovery Ministry. This team is committed to providing the loving presence of Christ as we respond to natural disasters within our conference and across the connection. The ministry provides a framework of resources and training for the local church and district, thus strengthening response within our communities.

We invite you to give generously to this ministry that has helped thousands over the years. It’s not if, it’s when. Natural Disasters will always be present and we must be ready to appropriately respond. This offering will be collected at the opening worship service on Sunday, June 12, 2016, at Frazer Memorial United Methodist Church. You may also donate online at

Request from Blue Lake United Methodist Camp

Summer is almost upon us and we are excited that again this year we will host 12 sessions of open enrollment camp offered to campers from all over Alabama, Florida, and beyond! We are expecting a great turnout for these sessions and we are excited that we will have a chance to minister to these awesome children!

It is our fervent desire that no child is denied a camp experience due to financial lack and because of that we are asking that you prayerfully consider giving to our annual campership fund. Any Financial amount given will go directly to providing a child and family in need the opportunity to attend this great and beautiful place.

Many of us have had life changing events happen at this awesome place and last year was no different. We saw many kids further their discipleship, several kids give their hearts and lives to Christ and one child whose family and pastor came up and was baptized right here in Blue Lake!

Please be the one this year to offer that to someone!   With many thanks!

Eric Hindmon,  Program Director, Blue Lake Methodist Camp

West Side UMC holds Abundant Life Luncheon

West Side UMC will host an Abundant Life Luncheon on May 17 at 11:30am.  Our guest speaker will be Kayla Kelim, Esp. from Aging In Alabama elder care law firm.  This event is open to the public.  Lunch donations $5.

Attention Youth Workers

The Alabama-West Florida Conference is launching a year-long youth ministry cohort. Six times a year a group of youth workers will gather to spend a day pursuing personal holiness and professional excellence. The group will spend their time focused on exploring personal spiritual development, troubleshooting real-world ministry problems, and discussing an important book that is relevant to the life and role of a youth worker in a local congregation.

The cohort will be facilitated by a veteran youth worker who will act as a personal and professional mentor for those involved in the session.

Each session will be divided somewhat equally between taking next steps in your personal relationship with Jesus, working on problems or new initiatives in your local ministry setting, and studying one of the texts below:

  • Reclaiming the Lost Soul of Youth Ministry: A Wesleyan Field Guide by: Jeremy Steele
  • The Sacred Way: Spiritual Practices for Everyday Life by: Tony Jones
  • Hurt 2.0: Inside the World of Today’s Teenagers by Chap Clark
  • In the Name of Jesus: Reflections on Christian Leadership by Henri Houwen
  • Your First Two Years in Youth Ministry by Doug Fields
  • You Lost Me: Why Young Christians Are Leaving Church...and Rethinking Faith by David Kinnaman

The year-long cohort costs $150, which covers the cost of books and meals. The fee must be paid in full before the first session.

The first meeting will be in Mobile, AL, on Thursday, May 26, 2016. Those registered will be notified of the location. Future meeting dates will be set by each group according to their own schedules. The locations will move from session to session to allow for each person to have some sessions closer to them.
Please contact Jeremy Steele if you have questions at cumcnextgen@gmail.com
