United Methodist Inner City Mission
On January 25th, a Ford Explorer traveling eighty miles an hour down Broad St. went air borne and destroyed the front business office of the United Methodist Inner City Mission. Miraculously, the driver nor his passenger were injured, and a McKemie Place staff person and a guest in the shelter, who had been sitting in the office completing an intake, had just walked out of the office and closed the door when the vehicle hit the office. They were not hurt, nor was the guest on the second floor who was knocked out of her bed by the force of the impact. We are truly blessed! Bricks, mortar, windows, equipment, and furniture can be replaced. Lives can’t be replaced. We have just learned that the driver’s insurance has a maximum coverage of $50,000, so our insurance carrier will have to make up the difference. This means that we must raise $5,000 to pay our deductible to make the repairs to the Mission’s building.
Also, while the ladies in the shelter are temporarily being housed at another church, we are trying to make some much needed repairs in the downstairs areas of the Mission. These repairs cannot be made while the shelter is being occupied. The total of these repairs are $13,312 (the contractors overseeing the work are donating their time). At this point we are walking by faith and not by sight. The Mission is moving forward with the repairs so this work can be completed by Wednesday, February 15th. This is the date when the ladies must leave where they have temporarily been staying. We are appealing to our brothers and sisters for gifts to help us cover these costs. All gifts will be greatly appreciated.
Please continue to keep the Mission in your prayers.
